AIM has released a new infographic that provides essential insights into protecting individuals and organizations from malicious QR code phishing, also known as “quishing,” attacks. AIM’s Technical Symbology Committee (TSC) developed the educational resource.
QR codes are on the rise, found on everything from menus to TV screens, providing fast access to digital content. There are safety challenges associated with these codes, as maliciously encoded QR codes can redirect unsuspecting users to fraudulent websites, lead to unauthorized downloads, or compromise sensitive information, AIM reports.
“As QR codes become an integral part of our daily transactions, ensuring their secure usage is critical. This one-pager from the Technical Symbology Committee provides the industry with practical advice to mitigate the risk of phishing attacks and maintain trust in QR code technology,” said Mary Lou Bosco, CEO of AIM.
Among the best practices, AIM advises people to use trusted apps that offer security issues; inspect the QR code for design tampering; enable security features on your device; and verify the source of the code.
